Reading Wine Labels

When reading wine labels, there are 5 pieces of information that will reveal the most about the bottle. The grape variety, the vintage (or year), the region in which the wine was made, the alcohol content, and the winery in which the wine was produced.

Other important elements that you may encounter on a wine label such as this the one below is
the term "Estate grown" which indicates that the wine producer owns the vineyard that produced the particular bottle of wine.

On other labels you may find the word "Reserve." This term implies that the bottle of wine is of higher quality than what the particular vineyard typically produces. Traditionally, winemakers
"Reserve" some of their best wine rather than sell it immediately.
